My cultural conquest started in Tokyo. After a few days in the metropolitan’s beast, I decided to head East and hopped on a local bus to Nagano (a small neighbouring city) situated somewhere in the the midst of central Japan.
Lost and hungry I headed for the first possible food option which in my case were boiled eggs sold by a local. My next and most important stop was at Yudanaka Yumoto – the town’s largest bath house where…Oh well, I indulged.
It is renowned not only for it’s wide range of gardens and onsens (bathing inns), but also as the primary inspiration for Hayao Miyazaki’s anime film, Spirited Away.
